Our Boys Turned One!

I can't believe our boys are officially one year old!  This is how I'd sum up the first year with our boys... the first 2 months almost killed us, the first 6 months felt like 6 years, but then all the months after that just flew by!  These past 12 months, Bryce and Benjamin have worn us out, taken over the whole house, led us to buy a minivan, given us a few bruises/a bloody nose/even one broken toe, turned us into happy/doting/proud/bragging parents, made us laugh/cry/rush to the emergency room/do things we said and thought we'd NEVER do... but most of all, they've filled our lives with more joy than we could ever have imagined!

As always, the boys celebrated a few exciting milestones this past month!

-Their measurements are now...
Weight: Bryce 21lbs 10oz (35%), Ben 22lbs 1oz (40%)
Height: Bryce 29 1/4 in (45%), Ben 29 3/4 in (60%)
Head Circumference: Bryce 18 3/8 in (75%!), Ben 18 3/4 in (93%!)

- Evan and I were terrified (and even considered doing this infront of the hospital!), but we finally fed them eggs for the first time.  I remembered when my niece, Claire, had a bad allergic reaction to eggs when she was a baby, so I held my breath as we waited to see if the boys would show any bad reactions.  Luckily, they were just fine even though they didn't like the eggs all that much!

-We are officially in size 4 diapers and wearing mostly size 12-18 months clothes.

-Bryce has spoken his third word (after momma and dadda) and that is "no, no, no, no, no"  (Not just one "no" but at least 5 in a row.)

-Benjamin's third word is "up" and he says it to us whenever he wants to get out of his highchair or pack and play.

-They're both going through a "biting" phase.  They're constantly biting us and each other!

-They've switched on us... Ben has miraculously become our "easier" child!

-They're both quickly learning the meanings of many words like ball, car and book, and they'll actually do it when we tell them to bring us one of these items.

-They can both stand up with very little effort and will often stand without holding on to anything as long as they have something to lean their body on.  I predict they'll be walking very soon!

It's been an amazing experience watching our boys grow and learn so quickly these past 12 months, and we're so excited to see what's in store for year #2!  And, of course, we can't let a month go by without our Monthly Monkey Photos... this, unfortunately, will be our last month with the monkeys, but we do have a new idea for our "annual" birthday pics (which we will reveal later in this post)!

Here it is, 12 monkeys in celebration of the boys' 1-year birthday!

Just like last month, our active boys gave us quite a show...

There's dad on standby to catch any falling babies and monkeys...

I think poor blue monkey is getting bitten...

Poor big monkey...

Dad was getting nervous...

Notice our new friend in the corner?

Everyone, meet Mr. Giraffe!  He will be joining us every year for our annual birthday pictures.  My grand idea of having the boys "stand" on either side of the 5ft giraffe to show their height comparison didn't work out so well this first year...

Poor dad had the hard job of trying to get them to stay still long enough for me to get ONE picture...

We decided maybe a different spot would help... obviously we were wrong!

Where did they go?

Hey, there's one face!

I guess we would've been done if we didn't have twins...

Since that didn't work, we thought maybe an enclosed area would help.  So far so good... now if only they'll both turn around...

Getting closer...

Wrong direction, Ben!

Wrong direction, Bryce!

If only that door stopper they kept playing with was infront of the giraffe...

Oh goodness...

I think this will be our official 1-year picture... a front view and a back view.  Afterall, they are identical twins.

Thanks for your cooperation, boys!  Hope next year will be a little easier!
